Ok, this is your chance to hijack the blog (within reason; no demanding a Leer Jet to the Bahamas for ransom or anything). Use this week's post to review a movie, praise a band no one's heard of but should have, point out a news story about the art world (did anyone hear about the huge discovery of Anglo-Saxon treasure last week?), or continue the debate about a previous topic, etc, etc, etc....
You have to keep it school-appropriate, avoid name-calling and furniture-throwing, and talk about a medium of art. Other than that, you're on your own, kids!

There is a sort of new rapper names Chriss
ReplyDeleteWebby, I think everyone should listen to him. He is from connecticut and not very big yet. It is not exactly apporpriate but he is very talented for putting all his songs together himself and actually pulling everything together to get his career started.
There is a band that has really grown on me called "Neutral Milk Hotel". I have no idea where they came from or what their name is even supposed to mean but I bet they are foreign or something. Their music is very catchy and I can relate to a lot of their lyrics. The singer has a unique voice and I like music that's a little out of the ordinary. One of my favorite songs of theirs is "The King Of Carrot Flowers". I think they're a newer band but I'm probably wrong. I mean I wouldn't be surprised if everyone else has already heard of them and I just seem really dumb even writing this. But if not you should really listen to them at least once.
ReplyDeleteThere’s this awesome new singer Se7en. He’s from South Korea and he does hip hop and R&B. He actually has an English single out but his album hasn't hit stores yet *tear*. For his single "Girls" he partnered up with Lil Kim and their music video is pretty cool. Plus he's cute..that always helps and he's a good dancer and he makes funny references like he mentions Will Smith, Google and Michael Jackson. Check it out!

ok chester french great band. i think i saw them on mtv like in between shows one time but i've known them for years they only have a few songs out but "jimmy choos" and "she loves everybody" are great songs i know by them. and chris webby is amazing! i love him i just heard "lalala" about a week ago in on my friends ipod. great great song
ReplyDeleteSo there is this new singer courtney humen. She is from oklahoma and is super good! she is not really known by many she is considered a country singer, but does some cross hip hop. I heard about her through my mom. and I am hooked on her songs! check her out! also the movie jennifers body was hot! I mean megan fox? HELLO! guys go see it!
ReplyDeleteA music artist that i feel many people dont listen to but i enjoy his music is Rob Thomas. He use to lead the band of Matchbox Twenty, and his theme of music rock or pop. I started listening to this music when my mom first heard it on the radio, and then i started listening to it. So if your interested in rock or pop kinds of music i suggest listening to Rob Thomas.
ReplyDeleteShifting gears, there's a webseries that I particullarly enjoy called "Red vs. Blue" by a company called Rooster Teeth (which, incidentally, is based in Dallas) It is a brilliant bit of metafiction with a heavy online cult following. It's created in a film style called "machinima," which is the use of video games for video-making purposes. "Red vs. Blue" is a satirical look at everything and anything and totals nearly 150 mainline shows, as well as close to 100 shorts, called PSA's. While not particularly appropriate in its language or in many of its jokes, "Red vs. Blue" is an intriguing look at new uses for new technologies. It can be found on recvsblue.com, or its parent site, roosterteeth.com. I highly recommend watching some of the original episodes (from the Blood Gulch Chronicles) before any of the new stuff; you'll get lost pretty easily besides.
ReplyDelete*Typo: redvsblue.com,not recvsblue.com. I cant imagine what would pop up if you typed in the wrong URL...
ReplyDeletei recently just watched the movie fired up and it was a great movie. there was a lot of comedy involved and of course there was the typical love happy ending. the movie portrayed a great moral on friendship between different groups of people.
ReplyDeleteI am a fan of the show the Big Bang Theory, its hilarious. Its about four physics nerds who are all ridiculous in their own way. Two of them live across from a hot blonde and one is kinda involved with her. They make fun of each other and it mocks nerds everywhere. Its awesome.
ReplyDeleteI don't know if people have heard of the band Red or not, but I just heard about it this summer and it is now one of my favorite bands. They rock pretty hard on a lot of their songs and also do some good covers. Also, people should check out more of Matt Nathanson's songs. Most people know about him from the song Come On Get Higher, but he has a lot of good songs and is awesome in concert so if he's ever in town check him out!
ReplyDeleteSo jacked for the weekend!!!!!!!!! I hope its like a fairy Tale lol. But all us mature kids no thats a never after HEHEHEHE. All i wanna say is that there are a lot of rising artist and Im gonna look up all the ones you guys said. Thanks
ReplyDeleteSo it seems I'll be the one who's the first to mention something other than music. I saw a play last night put on by Olney Theatre Center. After that, I really must say that modern artists must be sure to make their art significantly less boring. "Night Will Fall" was supposed to be a psycological thriller, but it was not, for me anyway. I fell asleep midway, but this could just be due to my sleep schedule that makes me much more suited for matinees. Or maybe thrill is all relative, and it was a great time for the woman my family overheard who asked "is this a talking play? and should I get one of those hearing aid things?".
ReplyDeleteNevertheless, my opinion on this art subject is that contemporary drama needs to do more to appeal to wide audiences.
Big Bang Thoery is amazing! right on squirtle! and neutral milk hotel is well... i cant describe how bad they are while being school appropriate. i guess you could say i would rather listen to elevator music. There is a band Anberlin who isn't too big yet and they have a lot of really chill songs. I like a lot of music, from Parkway Drive, (Scremo) to slightly stoopid (who knows what kind of music they play) to country. I dont understand why people dont like country. its clearly the best type of music.
ReplyDeleteLast weekend I watched the movie Prom Night. It was the original version and I thought it was horrible. I would not suggest ever watching it. I know it was supposed to be a scary movie but it was very creepy and quite boring. Even though it was from Redbox I would not suggest spending $1.06 to watch it.
ReplyDeleteso there is this new rapper named J-welly, and she is really good. She is not big at all, not even on itunes yet. I heard her through my cousin one day she had it in her car, and it was really cool sounding and got me hooked. Check her out sometime..
ReplyDeleteOn youtube there is this video of one guy playing love story by taylor swift on the piano and another man playing viva la vida on the chello at the same time, and it is really pretty. You think it wouldnt sound good at all but for some reason it is beautiful. everyone should check it out
ReplyDeletesquirtle is dirtle: i love big bang theory! its one of my favorite new shows. i have to say sheldon is my favorite because hes so out there but i love all the characters.
ReplyDeleteK: speaking of good youtube videos, check out Happyslip videos. its this woman who does shorts about her family, playing all the characters. shes amazing and she won some award for one of them.
M4: as for plays, i just read an amazing play called "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof" by Tennessee Williams. (same guy who did Streetcar Named Desire, slightly more famous--the "STELLA" play) anyway, its an amazing script, and while its not exactly contemporary, i'd say go see it if you ever get the chance. gaurentee it wont put you to sleep. in fact, reading a tennessee williams play is a great experience. he deals with social problems in the American south in the first half of the twentieth century and he is an amazingly talented playwright.
So I am going to try and respond to every post, by putting a small sentence of my opinion in for each post.
ReplyDelete1. I personally don't enjoy rap. I don't think its music, but some older rap, very old is alright. It just doesnt appeal to me at all. Good beats but the lyrics usaually are horrible. Thats juts my opinion.
2. Never heard of them and sounds a little odd.
3. A korean hip hop singer sounds a little too odd for me haha.
Alright for all the music posts, havent found any that interest me sorry, except for Rob Thomas, from Mtachbox twenty, he i like, well more or less its Matchbox twenty i like.
Red vs. Blue is hilarious and very entertaining. Everyone should watch a episode sometime.
THE BIG BANG THEORY IS AMAZING. It seriously is one of the funniest shows I have ever seen. I watch it with my whole family, and very frequently we end up crying from laughing so hard. Sheldons insults are great, even though i dont understand most of them.
Personally I love classic rock music. Modern rock is horrible comparatively. All people do now is play chords, there is rarely any creativity. But there are many bands that are good. I love John Mayer and The Dave Mathews band, to name a few.
There is a band called the dangerous summer, theyve been around for about a year or so, but they arent really known. They perform alternative rock music and are pretty good. They live right in ellicot city maryland and perform sometimes at recher theatre, so you should go see them next time they are in town.
ReplyDeleteThere is a very underground rap duo known as Prolyphic and Reanimator. Reanimator is the producer and Prolyphic is the rapper. They are more lyrical than most other artists but it is really hard to find their music. My favorite song by them is Two Track Mind from the album The Ugly Truth.
ReplyDeleteThere is a new singer named Scotty Cameron. He is sorta like John Mayer and is just an individual singer dude or whatever. He's got some pretty solid songs. My favorite is called Newport.
ReplyDeleteClassic rock is defently my favorite kind of music. With such as Led Zeppelin, Boston, The Who, Aerosmith, Steve Miller, Tom Petty, CCR, the Kinks, The Beatles, The Eagles, and Bruce Springsteen; other genres just dont compare to classic rock. Modern rock bands, with a few exceptions such as the foo fighters, all sound like little girls. And Rap just doesnt make sense and doesnt sould like music at all.
ReplyDeletelisten to -set your goals-.... best band ever enough said
ReplyDeleteJon lajoie is a singing comedian, super hilarious but don't listen to him in front of, small children, parents, grandparents, feminists, people that dislike over excessive profanity, akward situations and basically anyone with any sense of decency at all.
ReplyDeleteI just watched the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for the first time, and I am confident in saying that I have become a changed man. I would rather not ruin any part of the movie for anyone here who hasn't seen it. I will just say 5 words. An acid trip through Vegas. Yeah. Who's not interested now. I'll even tell you the main character. Its Johnny Depp. Combine those two elements and I think you have laid the groundwork for either the greatest movie ever, or a film biography of Mat Litcher's life.
ReplyDeleteI can lilke any kind of music that you put on. That is, everything except COUNTRY. It's just one of those generas of music that gets boring after a while; playing the same thing over and over and over again. I am more of a music man. I never pay attention to the lyrics. I don't know if i'm missing out because of it or something, but thats just how I listen.
ReplyDeleteI like a range of music, from alternative to ska to indie pop, maybe some rap thrown in, nothing heavy though. If it sounds good and has a good beat im in for it. country is a no, i dont like listening to whiney voices like that. Screamo is eh, the heavy stuff where you cant even understand what theyre saying is just plain bad. As far as bands go i like the beatles, of course, third eye blind, collective soul, oasis, the verve.. then i am also into the who, journey, boston.. anything that sounds good to me ill listen to.
