ReplyDeleteHoliday music is always fun during December, and it's nice to watch the snow come down while drinking hot cocoa and listening to "White Christmas" or "Sleigh Ride." But after New Years', holiday music gets tiresome and annoying, so it calls for a change in music. I find light jazz usually catches the mood of a snowday. It probably has something to do with the music selection of "A Charlie Brown Christmas," but since it isn't Christmas music per se, it doesn't get really obnoxious really fast.
Christmas music is cool for a very short time. I work at Safeway and they started Christmas music the day after Thanksgiving, this is why i became sick of Christmas music in about a week. And for movies, I grew up watching the movie Prancer....thank my mother....I guess it isn't a bad Christmas movie, but I'm officially way too old for it.

ReplyDeleteI can't pick a favorite book or movie for a snow day. All I can say is that the best thing to do after coming in from sledding and playing in the snow is curling up in front of the fire with a cup of cocao and a good book. It doesn't really matter what book, as long as its a good one. For me, that is a very long list.
ReplyDeleteThe Grinch or The Santa Clause, i love to watch those movies on snow days. They are both christmas movies and its just a perfect time to watch them.
ReplyDeleteOn a snowy day I like to watch movies that don't make me think a lot. Usually we are already out of school so I like to take advantage of that and just relax. During the holiday I love watching elf and my family always watches White Christmas together.And, I am one of those people that listen to Christmas music the day after thanksgiving. During this snowy break I listened to lots of Christmas music and even sat around and read some mindless books.
ReplyDeleteI dont read so books are pretty worthless to me on a snowy day. On snow days I usually sleep in then if its too icy to go out and drive I'll usually watch random movies that I find.

ReplyDeleteSnowy Days call for a good fantasy book or possibly a post-apocalyptic novel. Something about that warm feeling you get snuggling up in a giant blanket and living in a new world for a half hour is undeniable and indescribable. Christmas stories are incredibly cliche in my opinion, and reading them after Christmas in the snow is just about impossible.
ReplyDeleteI would agree with others that snowy days are best for reading, as other than being than outside it is probably the most distracting from the fact that you are stuck in my house. I am not at all a fan of fantasy books, but what I do like that also takes you into a more-fictional world is sci-fi.
ReplyDeleteGood movies are also ok; I don't find myself nearly as engaged in them as books, but if I watched a good film in a basement where I wasn't reminded as the snow, it would probably do just as well as a book.

After coming inside I usually just watch tv. Especially before Christmas there were a lot of Christmas movies on tv and my favorite one is Elf. Every year my mom always makes us watch It's a Wonderful Life around Christmas also. I saw A Christmas Carol at the imax theater and it was pretty cool.
ReplyDeleteWhen i come in i play cod. any day is a good day for that. Books are garbage and nobody reads anyways so thats not really an option. Maybe some hot chocolate with marshmallows is acceptable also.

ReplyDeleteWhy is it that most of those who would read say that either fantasy or sci-fi works well for snow days?
On a snowy day, I like to read a good book or watch a good movie while drinking hot chocolate. I like to read fantasy or fiction on those days, because it's like going to another world while unable to physically go somewhere. If I'm in the mood for a movie though, fun ones like The Princess Bride or Ferris Bueller's Day Off are always good when being snowed in.
ReplyDeletesnow days are the best because of no school. for most people it is a time to go outside and hang with friends. for me its a chance to catch up on my winter reading. There is nothing better then curling up around the fireplace with a good Jane Austin or john steinbeck book.
ReplyDeleteOn a snowy day i enjoy coming in my house and just getting warm watching any T.V. shows. Sometimes i enjoy playing out in the snow with friends, but i hate getting cold. Also sometimes having a nice hot mug of hot chocolate is nice.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite movie to watch on a snowy day is a christmas story. It is the all time funniest movie and have watched it since i was little. On christmas it is playing all day at our house. It just gets everyone all happy and in a good mood for the holiday
ReplyDeleteMy favorite movie to watch over the snowy break was billy madison. It was on a few times and i love it. I first watched it at a young age and it really changed my life. X mas music is legit but i only listen to it a few times. And i drink lots of coco
ReplyDeleteWhen coming in from a snowy day theres nothing better than watching Bruce Lee and Clint Eastwood movies till I can't keep my eyes open any longer, Reading some ancient religious scripture and drinking lukewarm soda. As for the best snowy day movie I would have to say Dirty Harry just because Im feeling lucky, punk.

I find that coming inside, sitting by the hot fire and drinking hot chocolate while watching Christmas movies is the best possible alternative to being outside. Plus, with a little Kenny G Christmas album playing in the back, you're golden. I don't care particularly what Christmas movie, but A Christmas story is a classic and must-see.
